To Refine: to improve an idea, method or system by making small changes
My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. Maya Angelou
Recognising that you are not thriving in life as you might hope to can cause dreams to fade and a sense of loss of a life once imagined. Or perhaps feelings of anxiety are preventing you experiencing an energized, enthusiastic life, great relaxing downtime and even a restful sleep. Gentle and creative counselling, including Animal Assisted Therapy can assist, helping to build resilience and achieve goals.
  • Anxiety - doesn't need to control your life.
  • Depression- a joy filled life can be possible
  • Trauma - whether 'big T 'or 'little t' trauma - doesn't have to continue to impact your future.
  • Resolving difficulties can result in living a more wonderful life than you ever imagined.

Refinery Counselling?

Multifaceted approach
A variety of approaches can be utilized, including animal assisted therapy with beautiful Lucy, or young Tara, both Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen dogs.
Caring counselling
An empathetic witness may be missing in a chapter of our lives, and can be a missing piece in our healing puzzle. Work with a counsellor who is caring, qualified in a number of modalities and allows you time to process in a safe environment at your pace.
Gently paced
Our daily lives hold patterns in relationships, activities and thoughts that can become unnoticed as we move through each day. Taking time to notice and be more mindful and present, in addition to other modalities utilised, can open up change and other possibilities.
I hold a Bachelor of Counselling, am a member of PACFA as a Clinical Counsellor - and have completed trauma training in Somatic Experiencing. I have worked in both Primary and Secondary schools, and over ten years I have worked with people using Refocussing Therapy, studying under Diane Divett, the founder of this theory. Recently, I have completed studies in Developmental Trauma - learning interventions that can be incorporated gently to change long held emotions and patterns in our body. My dog and I have also qualified with Lead the Way to use Animal Assisted Therapy and a second dog is now qualified. I currently work with adolescents and children using creativity to enhance outcomes.
